Google’s March 2024 Update: Better Search, Less Spam

Google’s March 2024 update is about improving content quality and cracking down on spammy strategies.

Highlights

  • Google’s March 2024 Core update brings Algorithm changes to improve search quality and new spam policies.
  • The update wants to reduce low-quality, unoriginal content in search results by 40%.
  • The new spam rules target misuse of scaled content, site reputation, and expired domains.

The March 2024 core update is now been released.

Improve Quality Ranking

The main focus of the update is to improve Google’s Ranking system.

”We’re improving our core ranking algorithms to prioritize the most useful information online and minimize the presence of copied content in search results,” stated Elizabeth Tucker, Director of Product for Search at Google.

The company has been working on cutting down on useless and copied content, and the March 2024 update is an ongoing process.

Google aims to combine this update and previous efforts to reduce up to 40% of low-quality and copied content in the search results.

New Spam Policies

To improve the Ranking System, Google is updating its spam policies that remove low-quality and unoriginal content from search results.

Google says,” Starting today, we’re applying against more types of manipulative behavior. Our ranking systems already prevent much low-quality content from ranking high in Search, but these updates let us target specific issues under our spam policies.”

1. Scaled Content Abuse

Google is getting stricter about stopping automated tools from making lots of bad or copied content to boost search rankings.

The revised policy will target the misuse of generating content in large quantities to improve search rankings, whether using automation, humans, or a mix of both.

2.Site Reputation Abuse

Google is dealing with the problem of site reputation abuse, where trusted websites host low-quality, third-party content to take advantage of the hosting site’s good reputation.

Google will see content as spam if it’s purposed to improve rankings.

3.Expired Domain Abuse

Google’s new rules will target the misuse of expired domains. It happens when people buy old domains and use them to boost the visibility of low-quality content. It can trick users into thinking the new content is from the old, trusted site.

Summing up

In summary, Google’s March 2024 update aims to improve search results by fighting spam and improving content quality. With the new rule of Google targeting spam and misuse of expired domains, Google is working to give users more reliable information when they search.
